Yaguareté Cartones is one of Paraguay’s leading companies in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of corrugated board and packaging. Founded in 1978, the company expanded its commitment to sustainability in 2004 by establishing Yaguareté Reciclaje in Ciudad del Este – with the goal of collecting and recycling waste paper and cardboard.

Today, the vertically integrated corporate group includes Yaguareté Reciclaje, Kartotec, Yaguareté Cartones, and Yaguareté Logística. At the heart of its business operations lies the promotion of sustainable production and responsible consumption – with a clear focus on environmental protection and forward-looking development.

At its sites in Paraguay, WEIG uses exclusively renewable energy sources, including biomass from sustainable forestry and hydropower. Since 2005, the total energy consumption per ton of board has been reduced by 13%.

WEIG’s commitment in Paraguay spans the entire value chain – from raw material sourcing for paper production to design, manufacturing, and distribution of products for the local market (paper bags, cartons, flexible packaging, papers for various industries). In addition, the company exports technical papers for the production of plasterboard and corrugated board to markets such as Uruguay, Chile, Brazil, Bolivia, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, and South Africa.

Our History: A Family Legacy

The story of Cartones Yaguareté S.A. began in 1931 in Mayen, Germany, when Emil Moritz Weig brought the first paper machine to Paraguay. This visionary pioneering achievement laid the foundation for a deeply rooted, multi-generational corporate philosophy that unites tradition with progress.

1978

In 1978, Cartones Yaguareté S.A. was officially founded – driven by the ambition to locally produce high-quality paper and packaging solutions and to stimulate economic growth in Paraguay. The technology, originally from Germany, thus became the basis for sustainable growth and industrial innovation in South America.

2025

Today, in 2025, Yaguareté stands as a market leader in board packaging and paper. The company successfully exports to Brazil, Uruguay, South Africa, and other international markets. At the same time, Yaguareté is setting new benchmarks in paper and board recycling, building its sustainable vision for the future on a strong foundation of family values, technological excellence, and ecological responsibility.

Locations and Future
Expansion of Yaguareté

Yaguareté’s production sites are located in Luque, in the Central Department, and in Ciudad del Este, in the Alto Paraná Department.

The company operates recycling stations in Asunción, Luque, Villa Elisa, Ciudad del Este, Limpio, and Foz do Iguaçu (Brazil) to ensure efficient material recovery.

Currently, a new recycling facility is under construction in Loma Pytã, scheduled for completion in February 2025. This expansion highlights Yaguareté’s ongoing growth and commitment to sustainable production processes.
